24.09.2022 "La grande traversée" - International Logboatregatta 2022 at Lake Aiguebelette

This year's "International Logboat Regatta" took place on 23 and 24 September at Lake Aiguebelette. Under the motto "la grande traversée", a total of 21 teams competed. Old and new winner of the international competition is team "Navis" from Slovenia. Among the local teams, the team "les Cros-Mignons" came out on top. The teams could not only compete in canoeing, but also in the sportive-creative parcous "Palafitness". A  programme for young and old with an archaeological market, a neolithic lunch, guided canoe tours to the pile dwelling sites in the lake, and a public evening lecture about the construction of the logboats used offered a lot of interesting information around the topic of prehistoric pile dwellings and invited people to participate and try things out. With more than 19 exhibitors and over 800 visitors, as well as thanks to countless volunteers, the "grande traversée" was once again a success and an important contribution to exchange, mediation and participation around the serial and transnational World Heritage Site "Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps".

18.01.2022 "Podcast Riesi - Die Entdeckung der Aargauer Pfahlbauten"

It is Easter Monday in the year 1923. The water at Lake Hallwil is lower than it has been for a long time. Postmaster Arnold Hauri from Seengen in the canton of Aargau takes this opportunity to drill holes on the Riesi peninsula at the northern end of Lake Hallwil. He is looking for human traces from the past. What happens after that is meticulously recorded in a researcher's diary - it is the discovery story of a find of the century.

The new podcast series by the Canton Aargau Archaeology Department follows the moments and events of the groundbreaking excavation in the 1920s. It is a search for traces in the diaries of the researcher Reinhold Bosch, the man who not only carried out numerous excavations but also became the first cantonal archaeologist in Aargau 20 years later. The podcast shows how the foundations of modern archeology were laid more than 100 years ago and asks how up-to-date the findings of that time are today.

22.04.2021 Remnants of a prehistoric pile dwelling confirm: Lucerne is 2000 years older than everyone thought

The recent construction of a water line through the lake bed, presented the unique opportunity to explore the archaeological past of the Lucerne lacustrine bay. Under the direction of the Lucerne Kanton Archaeological Department, a team of divers from the Zurich Department of Underwater Archaeology monitored the construction. During excavation works, the team discovered the remnants of a pile dwelling settlement from the Bronze Age, from about 3000 years ago. This discovery finally proves the theory that the Lucerne Bay of the Vierwaldstätter See, has been a popular settlement area since prehistoric times.
