Short Description
The site was discovered in 1989 and is located about 250 meters south of Allershausen, at the western rim of the Federsee marshlands. Excavations were conducted by the Baden-Württemberg Department of Antiquities and Monuments between 1990 and 1992, and again in 2005. The site represents a settlement associated with the “Goldberg III-Group” that specialized in the cultivation of flax and cattle farming. Grundwiesen is an exemplary site in Upper Swabia, in regards to the introduction of new social, economic and technological innovations during the Late Neolithic.
